    • Gorgeous views, amazing staff, fantastic restaurant

We loved our stay so much at Batu Karang, we extended it a day! When we arrived to the hotel we were immediately wowed by the views! We had a villa with a private pool. The rooms go up the hill (they will take you up in a buggy whenever you need, not to worry!) and each room has a view facing the ocean and the volcano - stunning! Our room had an outdoor bathroom, which I loved. Bed was comfortable and the room had everything we need. The hotel staff was phenomenal, they helped us with whatever we needed (tour bookings, changing our boat back to Sanur, recommendations etc.) and they were also a lot of fun! The restaurant at the hotel is excellent, and we ended up eating there a lot of the time. The included breakfast is delish and a great bonus to our stay. If you have to get out early in the morning (which we did a lot for tours) they will let you order the night before and have everything ready when you get down. There are three pools on the property, all are gorgeous. At least when were were there, nothing was overcrowded either, it was fun and relaxing. I got a massage at the spa and it was fantastic! The staff there was amazing and my massage just what I needed! Highly recommend staying here if you want a bit of luxury on your trip to the island.

If you love nice views you have to stay at Batu Karang. Nice hotel overlooking the mainbeach, but in the cliffs so you are away from the hustle .... but still within walking distance. The rooms are beautiful, but lack that touch of making it perfect. The soroundings couldnt be better so it is a shame. Nice staff, good restaurant. 5 stars if the small details where in place.

    • Beautiful property; less so surroundings

We stayed for 6 nights at Batu Karang in September 2019. Driving up to the property, my heart dropped because of so much junk and trash scattered along the road. Once the gate opened up and I was on-property, the outside ugliness disappeared, as the property itself is quite beautiful, built along a steep hillside above the bay. Not sure how many total rooms there are, but it seemed that privacy was pretty good throughout the property. Beautiful landscaping, 3 nice pools (we tended to like the lap pool the best because of the individual cabanas), and really nice vibe throughout (groovy music at poolside, etc.). After a long day of scuba diving, walking up to room can be trying, but the resort provides golf cart service that is readily available to make the journey easy. We stayed in a 1-bedroom villa that had a good view of the waterfront, a very large outdoor patio with day-bed, small table and chairs, huge oval bath, and a wonderful outdoor shower. Beautiful tile work and thoughtful architectural elements, like cut-throughs, really enhanced the experience and views. Inside, we had a very comfortable king-sized bed, small television mounted in the corner (though the curtains always partially blocked the monitor), a very large desk area that is perfect for laying out personal belongings, that also included an electric kettle for making instant coffee or tea, plus a small mini-fridge. There was a very small in-room safe, but it was sufficient. The vanity area had decent lighting, and the outdoor toilet was fine, except when fires were burning in town, at which point I wished I had an indoor toilet. Two other small annoyances with the room: the entrance door is two vertical half doors, and using one is extremely small for going in and out of, forcing you to turn sideways just to get in or out of the room. If you need more room, like for luggage, you just opened up the second half of the door. More problematic about this setup is that the doors didnt shut tightly, so there was a visible gap between them. This means while laying in bed I could see people walking by (and one assumes, they could see me), so there was a loss of privacy, as well as not good sound-proofing. When someone walked by in flip-flops, you heard it. To me this is the biggest opportunity to improve the resort as one expects visual and audible privacy in a high-end resort. On-site restaurants were all very good special kudos to Dedy and Septi, who work at the restaurant and were always so pleasant and helpful! Beyond these two, we found all other employees exceptionally well-trained and professional. Whomever is doing the hiring and training deserves a raise! Really enjoyed the variety of meals offered at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and liked that we had options of where to sit. If we got bored, we found the Thai Pantry next door to be very good for a few meals. We were thrilled to discover a gelato stand that served very good product. My major complaints are with things the resort has no control over, but still affects the guest experience. One is the trash that was previously mentioned: not only was it at the resort entrance, but at the waterfront when one ventures a few steps always from the resort property. There are parcels that actually look like trash dumps. Another is the smell of smoke from people burning their trash, etc. This is a frequent occurrence in Bali, and it really affects the air quality. And the third was being awoken at 6am each day for the local adhan. Being in a predominantly Hindu island, and not having experienced it in Ubud, we were surprised to hear it on Nusa Lembongan. The resort obviously cant control these things, but they did affect the overall experience nonetheless. I mention these more as a heads-up for other would-be visitors. Also note that there are no dedicated places to swim in the ocean because of all the boats that use the beach in front of the resort. We did find a small spot for dipping in to the ocean about 25 minutes up the bay towards Blue Corner.

Spent a wonderful 7 days here whilst scuba diving around the island and Nusa Penida. The staff couldnt be more helpful, no matter what we asked for or needed help with. Great location great room (just a small complaint about the hardness of the bed!. Couldnt sleep for a couple of nights so they put an extra quilt or two on top of the mattress to help out our hips) The view is amazing and we chose the special occasion villa with private pool which was just beautiful. Large king size outdoor bed under canopy where we whiled away the afternoons after diving all morning.
