    • comfortable B&B with a perfect garden

      Reviewed 14 July 2019

We wanted to visit the Basque country and the caves there. We found this B&B on google maps and fell in love with the house and the beautiful garden. Alain is a perfectionist giving attention to all details. He maintains a Basque county house with a perfect garden next to a small river, where people were fishing there outside his property. The rooms are comfortable and French breakfast with self made jam, self made bread and cake. Alain gave very good tips for our visits to the vicinity, restaurants, and in particular told us where to park our car on the last day when we left for San Sebastian. If you happen to come to the Basque country and are in the vicinity of the Caves of Sare and Zugarramurdi, this may be a B&B which you can consider.

    • Perfect stay in a beautiful place with a wonderful host!

My parents and I (from Canada) visited the Pays Basque for the first time in June 2018 for a wedding and stayed at Chambres d'Hotes Ttakoinenborda for 9 nights. What a WONDERFUL experience! The establishment is immaculate, modern and beautifully decorated, all in a traditional Basque house in the country just outside of Sare. Breakfast was served on the traditional Basque stone table in their beautiful garden- freshly baked bread, homemade jams and yogurts... each morning was something special. The real highlight, however was our host Alain whose warm welcome, attention to detail and passion for the Pays Basque made it hard for us to leave. He gave us detailed itineraries for each day, with suggestions for where to go, what to see, and what to eat, all off the beaten path and very authentic experiences of the region. We learned a lot from him about this very special part of France and the Basque culture. We couldn't have asked for a better stay- we would return to Chambres d'Hote Ttakoinenborda in a heartbeat and highly recommend it.

What a wonderful experience to stay in the the beautiful 17th century home of Alain and Mary. They are charming and generous hosts. We loved the comfy room, the breakfasts with homemade yoghurt, jams and bread and their genuine friendliness. Their local knowledge was invaluable and allowed us to discover wonderful places and experiences we would otherwise not have known about. With a long family history in the Basque region, Alain has a passion for, and a fascinating knowledge of, local history and traditions. We hope to be back one day.

Utterly peaceful location, beautiful garden, wonderful old farm house, superbly maintained, squeaky clean, delicious homemade bread, jam and cakes, very comfortable bed and well appointed facilities. Parking safe and easy to use .Housekeeping superlative - BUT the main asset was the delightful and welcoming host with his encyclopaedic rich knowledge of the countryside and always anxious that we made the most of our stay, recommending places to eat and see - what more could one need?

    • An extraordinary stay at an extraordinary b&b!

      Reviewed 06 July 2016

We stayed at the Ttakoinenborda bed and breakfast for four nights during our visit to the Basque Country in late June and we absolutely loved our visit. Alain, our host, treated us like family and his passion for his beloved region was clear every morning as he lavished touring advice to his guests as we sat at the breakfast table which itself was memorable: a huge stone slab set under a canopy outside on stone supports, large enough to accommodate eight people comfortably. And the breakfasts? Alain kneads and bakes his own bread fresh every morning and he also makes his own wonderful fruit jams. Every morning, he supplements breakfast with a special course that he also makes fresh. One morning it was a crpe with apples, another time it was a hazelnut cake and still another time the must treat of the the area, a yummy gteau basque. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with very modern bathrooms and, as Alain proudly explained, the house itself was built in 1680 by his ancestors. It has thus been in his family for well over three centuries. Go stay at Ttakoinenborda without hesitation and you will, as we did after four delightful days there, surely feel sorry to leave the fantastic b&b Ttakoinenborda!
