Extraordinary experience. For my family who are not divers, some didn't even know how to swim, Dive Master/Manager Nico Astaire was the perfect instructor. Staff were courteous, friendly and warm. Good leadership by Resort Manager Phillip Martin. Food was served in the best way for the palate. Cottages had no frills because they were very well-kept and homey. This is THE diving resort you need to go to. I will be back again. For sure.

    • Excellent Dive Vacation!

      Reviewed 04 September 2019

This was our second trip back to Atlantis Dumaguete, and it did not disappoint. The room: we were in Room #14, which was an upgraded room. It was very nice, and luckily we didn't have anyone in the unit above us. But I'm not sure I would have wanted to stay in this unit if we would have had people above us walking around on our heads, but since there wasn't, we loved the room. The shower floor could have used a good scrubbing as it felt a little slimey (shampoo/soap build-up), but other than that, everything was very clean and nice. BTW, I brushed my teeth with the water coming out of the bathroom sink tap, and did not get sick. They said it would be fine to use the tap water for brushing our teeth, and it was. The food: I'm vegan, so I was a little worried if I was going to have enough of a choice to eat, but the chef(s) did a wonderful job. I had steel cut oatmeal for breakfast, delicious fruit and they even had soy milk available for my oatmeal. Lunch and dinners were usually tofu dishes with vegetables & noodles, that were very delicious. Caution though, they make their tofu dishes really spicy, so if you don't like super spicy food, you'll have to tell the chefs to make the dishes mild. They were very delicious though, once made mild, and the chef even made me some whole grain vegan bread made from scratch. It was amazing!! Even the other people at our table loved it too, and preferred it over the regular bread. Very thoughtful of the chef! And we were celebrating our 29th anniversary, so the chef made us a beautiful "cake" from all fruit. It was so thoughtful and yummy! Thank you! :) The diving: it was amazing! I was so surprised how clean and garbage/plastic-free the waters were. We had gone to Indonesia a few months prior, and I will never go back. The waters were inundated with garbage and plastic, and I would find dead reef fish that had suffocated in plastic bags that had covered the reefs. It was horribly depressing. But Dumaguete's waters were beautiful and the reefs were healthy. So much cool ocean life to see too. And Apo Island! Wow! What can I say other than it is absolutely pristine. I couldn't believe how beautiful everything was there. I would highly recommend taking the day trip over there. I was so glad we did. It is absolutely gorgeous! And even though it rained most of the day we were at Apo, the boat crew kept us dry between dives, and served us up a delicious lunch. The staff: they are all so wonderful. A special shout out to Jed, who just made my morning, every day, with his sweet smile and laugh. He was so wonderful. The other restaurant staff were so accommodating and wonderful too. Gail in the Spa is amazing! I got spa treatments every day I was there and loved all of them. And Junnar.....such a wonderful, fun dive guide. We really enjoyed having him as our guide. I wish I can remember the name of the other dive guide that was on our boat, guiding another guest, but I can't. He was such a happy, sweet guy too. There was only one guy in the dive shop who would never look at me or smile (seemed like he didn't want to be there or didn't like tourists), but that was it. Every other single staff member was incredibly friendly and kind. Thank you Atlantis Dumaguete staff for another wonderful dive vacation. We will be back!

    • Valet Liveaboard Service at a Land Based Resort

      Reviewed 25 August 2019

As I mentioned in the title, this was truly a liveaboard valet service at a land base resort. The entire staff at the Atlantis resort was very accommodating and had a happy, can do attitude. Our journey began from DFW to Hong Kong. We were planning on staying in HKG for 4 days but due to the riots, we ended up staying overnight and catching an early morning flight to Manila to extend our dive trip in Dumaguete. From Manila we flew to Dumaguete and a couple of Atlantis staff members met us at the airport. Right away the valet service began, beginning with them taking our bags to the van. The ride to the resort was only about 30-45mins from the airport. The dive center was very well organized. They assigned you a cubby hole for whatever you wanted to put in there. Had dunk tanks for masks, fins and wetsuits and one for cameras and computers. Fresh water showers were available and an area to analyze your nitrox tanks. If you were diving nitrox they would prefer that you always had your tanks analyzed and ready for them to load up on the boat for your next few dives. They have a board which list the dive groups, sites and DM that you were going to be diving with. We ended up with the same DM for the whole week, Genie, which was nice because he already knew what we've seen and what divesites we had dove so far. We did have a few different DMs earlier in the week and they were all amazing!! They could spot macro critters from a mile away, incredible! The camera room was spacious and had 220v and 110v plugs, Most of the divesites were about 2-7mins away and not far from the shore, so all surface intervals were done back at the resort which was nice because they usually had snacks and whatever you wanted to drink, as well as a restroom specifically for divers. Most of the diving is muck diving and the marine life was incredible! We saw many frog fish, different colors of clown fish, flamboyant cuttle fish, peacock mantis shrimp, and many different kinds of pipefish and the list goes on and on. I've never been muck diving so for me, this was spectacular!!! Apo Island was a special treat. The coral and wall there were the most pristine that I had ever seen. We saw sleeping turtle that didn't mind divers at all, banded sea snakes, frog fish and many, many small fish, we even saw clams. Every safety stop on this dive trip was filled with either amazing coral at Apo or amazing small sea creatures in the muck areas, by the time you knew it your 3mins was complete. The resort arranged a trip to Oslob to snorkel with the whale sharks. It started with an early morning trek to take the ferry to Oslob, once in Oslob a drive to the resort where we boarded a boat and rode out to the whale sharks. The experience was amazing and I highly recommend it. My trip to the Philippines was so incredible that I'm already going back next year but this time to do their liveaboard, Azores and do the Tubbataha itinerary.
