    • Fine hotel, if a little in need of a refresh.

Very helpful staff. Nice rooms -- very quiet. Excellent location if you are visiting Nagasaki. A street car stop right beside the hotel. And a couple of blocks from the end of the toll highway tunnel if you are driving. Free parking. And the hotel is everything you would expect from an ANA Crowne Plaza

    • Nice stay.

We only stayed one night at the Crowne Plaza ANA Nagasaki Gloverhill on our tour of Japan. The hotel seemed quite modern, our room was surprisingly large for Japan hotels, very clean and comfortable, as usual the bathroom was small however had all the amenities you could possibly need. We had a few drinks at the lobby bar at happy hour which was reasonably priced but didn't have dinner at the hotel as we ventured to the main Harbour area. The breakfast was more than adequate for our needs. Overall we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

    • Good modern hotel, close to a couple of attractions

      Reviewed 17 September 2019

This is the only IHG hotel in the area and it looks like it has recently been renovated. I stayed at this property for 2 nights. This property from what I read, used to be the first Western hotel in the city. Location The hotel is located in the Gloverhill area, which is about 30 mins by foot to the main JR station (or 15 mins on the streetcar with a change at Chinatown station). It is about 3 mins walk to the streetcar station, 15-20 mins walk to Chinatown/downtown area. Around the area, are a few of the attractions/historical sites which does make it on one hand convenient. However with the streetcar, it is in a general sense ok. Getting to the Peace park and museum will take about 25 mins with the streetcar (involving a change in Chinatown). As for food outlets, during the daytime there are a couple of options (with some small local establishment) and there is about 5 mins walk from the hotel the Gusto chain restaurant (which is a sort of Denny's) and it opens early from 7 am to 2 am. (Food quality is good and very reasonably priced). Check In I arrived just after 2 pm, and was helped immediately by the check-in associate. The usual check-in procedures as in Japan. Was given a run down of the benefits as an Elite IHG member and told that I was upgraded to a Twin Deluxe room (not very often that anything is given even to Platinums from this aspect) which I appreciated. For my choice of welcome gift, I had actually wanted to take the welcome drinks option - but for whatever strange reason (not sure if it's hotel or the IHG program) - the offer is only valid for 1 guest even though you have 2 guests registered (and paid). Since they were not flexible about giving it for both, I just took the points. [for me this is just bad business/customer service practice to make things so weird] One positive thing here was that I was offered to be shown to my room - surprisingly even the Hilton in Fukuoka did not offer this for their Elite members. Room As I was shown to the room, the different amenities in the room was shown to me and I was also informed about their Green program (where you get points if you decline housekeeping service). I did take up the offer since it was just a 2 night stay and did not really need the room to be cleaned every day. [Only negative thing about it is that they don't even refill back tea/coffee or water - for me these are not part of the housekeeping items, so that should have at least been refilled/offered on days that you decline housekeeping service] Room size was ok especially for a Japanese hotel. Most stricking (based on my previous stays at other ANA CP hotels), the room seemed to have recently been renovated and it did look modern. Compared to the ANA Hiroshima - which was tired and room size much smaller (even for their deluxe room). The room had a small french balcony (enough to have at least 2 chairs outside) with a view towards the city and bay. As usual, they had tea/coffee making facilities, iron and 2 bottles of water provided. Internet speed/performance was stable and good. During check-in they did provide a program list in English for the international NHK channel - however in the room, there was not much explanation in using the Japanese remote, but I did figure out with experiences of using such remote in finding the different channels/options. The number of channel options were quite limited - especially English channels (mainly news related services). Climate control in the room was good. The bathroom was ok in size, with a bathtub. Toiletries were a mix of individual bottles or large refillable ones (Japanese brand). The toilet was equipped with the Japanese bidet. Sleep quality was good - there was not much noise from either outside or inside within the hotel and the bed was not too hard. Breakfast My rate was inclusive of breakfast. This was served in their main restaurant (on the 2nd floor (1st floor/Ground floor is the lobby)). There was a grand stairs leading from the lobby to the restaurant. Breakfast service was as usual good - with efficient and friendly staff. As usual, a variation of Japanese and Western items were available. There was also a omelet only (not sure if this was the case - as most guests only ordered omelet) station. They did have a few local dishes which is a nice touch in my opinion. All in all, a good breakfast offering. Although I guess if it was not included in my rate, I would have just gone down to the Gusto restaurant for breakfast. [not to say the breakfast at the hotel was bad - but for me I would have not spend the asking price for the breakfast - 2500 JPY if I remember correctly] Overall All in all, this is quite a good property - location might not be the best, but it is still quite convenient especially with the streetcar and the other attractions in the area. Staff as expected in Japan, were friendly and efficient. Of course much better IHG elite recognition would have been welcomed, but as I had set my expectations on what is expected, it was ok. (everything as per paper was fulfilled). I will certainly stay here again if I am in the area.

    • Great Location and great service

      Reviewed 16 September 2019

The location of this hotel is very good, right beside Oura Cathedral and the Glover House. There are some shops beside it as well. The hotel is quite old already, so was a bit disappointed given the rate of the hotel. I was expecting something better. Although it was much compensated by the service of the hotel. Prior to my arrival, I asked the hotel to help me book a restaurant, Akiko quickly attended to my request. I also had some queries and everytime I email her, I get a reply within few hours. Very helpful. Breakfast was okay. Nothing great but decent.

    • Hotel tired and room not cleaned properly

      Reviewed 23 March 2019

The hotel was tired and our room just hadnt been cleaned for several weeks and I couldnt understand why I was sneezing so much until we found how dusty the place was. We showed it to the duty manager before we left but there was nothing more than a very sorry and no indication that they would do anything about it or that they cared! Our room was a disgrace. This hotel needs cleaning and a facelift. In every other respect the staff in the hotel were great and very helpful. Breakfast for a European was good. The location next to the road up to Glover Hill was fantastic. There was a really helpful notice in the foyer which said which cruise liners were coming in and when. When one of these vessels disgorges 3,500 tourists down its gangways it is better to get up Glover hill before them so the notice was really useful. We took a taxi from the railway station because of luggage which cost approx. 1,000 yen but was so much easier than mucking about with trams which did take you at a much slower pace nearly to the hotel 150 m away was the stop, albeit it at a lower cost.
