    • Unbelievable neglect of the basics!

We stayed in An Sugan for the August bank holiday weekend this year. We thought it would be nice to be in the centre of things and An Sugan is in a very central place in the town of Clonakilty, a super location. Luckily myself and my husband arrived before my daughter and my son and their respective partners. I went into their rooms to check that they were nice because they were arriving late at night. To my horror, the bed in my daughter's room had been slept in, there were hairs on the pillow and the sheets were crumpled. The double bed in my son's room had a single duvet on it. A very nice girl, from the bar, changed both of the beds herself although this was clearly not her job. She agreed with me that both situations were unacceptable. I expect a clean fresh bed as a basic requirement of my stay in any establishment and this was not cheap! The rooms cost me 125 per couple per night! a total of 1,125 for three nights in what is, essentially a glorified B & B. This beginning spoilt the atmosphere of the holiday for us because I could not shake off the sense of creepiness about those dirty sheets. This place has a huge opportunity to do great business in a bustling town like Clonakilty which has so much to offer. On this occasion they really blew it! We won't be back.

As the title suggests first impressions are everything and these do nothing for this establishment!! Barman middle aged stout man shirt hanging out. Makes out to be busying himself but lets you waiting. Shown our room in a Very abrupt manner. Had a toastie and chips in bar for 2 of us. Over 25 including 1 mineral. Very expensive and we come from a foodie town. Breakfast this morning 8 to 10. Seriously say good morning to your paying guests. This older lady in yellow taking the order had no pleasantries. Younger lady with apron was nice amd friendly. Seen the older lady in yellow with a filter mask on outside and going up to rooms with this mask. Wondering was there some sort of bad quality air and should we all need masks. Wont be rushing here again when not friendly. Decor also fairly dated in bar.

I wanted to stay here as it was the home of Jane Irwin, poet and wife of the great Finian leader Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa. I reserved a room for four nights even though I could have stayed with friends. My main criticism is that there was no management available for the Bnb. The shower in my first room flooded and the toilet in my second room ran uncontrollably. The only help available was a very overworked bartender. I left my final night since I did not want to move a third time. I was charged a full fee.

We dined here on Wednesday night. It wasnt overly busy and seemed like a place tourists would like. Our food was good & service was prompt. I would recommend it to all. The only issue I might have would have been the prices but after dining in a few places it was on a par with everywhere else.

Arrived to a very friendly welcome - decided to eat in the seafood bar, food was excellent, freshly prepared and very attentive service. Thoroughly recommend. Room was luxurious and beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Again breakfast was fresh prepared and delicious with a great choice. One of the assets is the barmen who had us in stitches, with his banter and general good humour, you will have to go far to meet a happier person. Will be back soon.
