    • Cottam's Lodge & Alpine King Suite 2-Night Stay

Four of us stayed at the cabin at Cottam's Lodge on Friday night before hiking Mt. Wheeler, then my girlfriend and I stayed an extra night at a suite at Alpine Village Suites on Saturday. The staff was super-helpful when I booked the suite for the wrong night, and we got it straightened out. We did a late check-in on the cabin, and the staff again came through to make sure we would be able to get in. The Cottam's Lodge cabin was quiet, clean and well furnished. There was a couch and a queen in separate rooms downstairs and an attic bedroom with two twin beds accessible by ladder through the bedroom. There was one shared bathroom. I didn't see the two twin beds when I went to book, so that was an added bonus for us, since we didn't have to worry about who would sleep on the pull-out. Also, the attic was extra delightful for us, because we had just been talking about cabin-in-the-woods horror movies at dinner, and with the fog on the way up there, we had a good laugh at the unintentional trope of the place. It was a great stay, and we left feeling like we would have liked to stay another night. The king suite at the Alpine Village Lodge was great. There was a hot tub downstairs, open 8am - 10pm, although it was a little crowded for us the night we stayed. The room was really comfortable and well-put-together. We would definitely return here the next time was came to the Taos Ski Valley. My only critique about the whole experience is that the pillows they had on the beds were small square things, like half of a normal pillow and stuffed very full. It wasn't a big deal for us for two nights, but if we slept on them another night, we probably would have had sore necks. Next time, we'll just bring our own pillows, so that wasn't a big deal. Overall, it was still a great experience.

    • Just say NO. The suites and inn might be nice. NOT so for Cottam's Lodge.

We specifically chose the Cottam's Lodge to be away from the "downtown." The reviews were great, since they're lumped in with the Village Suites. Clearly a mistake since it was a very different place operating under the same company canopy. There's no instruction to go to the main village to check in. So, you arrive, see a note on the window, get back in car and proceed. At the "Cottage," it's a DUMP. The first thing was the smell - wet dog! Clearly recently slept beside the bed. Tried to open side door to air it out - it was literally TAPED SHUT! I have attached many photos so that you can see. Broken clock, broken furniture, gaps in wall/window, spider webs, dirty bath items left from prior occupant... The list goes on. When we called the manager, we got a voicemail. He called back and said he didn't have anyplace else, but he'd refund our money if we left. This is a remote area and calling Hotels.com was futile...either no cell signal or dropped calls. Of course, no room phone. We left after one night and the manager said he couldn't do a refund because we "stayed overnight." Eventually, he issued a partial refund.

This place was perfectly situated for our stay after 24 hours in the mountains. It was an idyllic setting with comfortable accommodations. A little dated but had everything we needed for a good price!

I was visiting Taos Ski Valley to hike Wheeler Peak, the highest mountain in New Mexico. When I arrived from Boston, the airlines had lost my trekking poles. I thought my trip was going to be a complete waste of time and money. Prior to my arrival , I called Alpine Village Suites to see if they knew of anywhere open until late where I could rent trekking poles. The woman I spoke to, Christine, tried calling a place while I was on hold, but found out they were going to be closed by the time I arrived in the area. I thought my trip was ruined, because I knew I needed those poles for the descent. Then Christine asked me to hold a minute. She got back on line to let me know that someone had left some ski poles there previously and I could borrow them for the hike if I wanted. Vacation rescued. Also, the rooms were very large, modern, and clean. Great location for hiking Wheeler Peak

So close to the ski resort. Parking was easy and close. Comfy, clean room with a balcony that had a nice view. Great hot tub and customer service. Had breakfast available in the morning. Would stay here again!
