We were not lucky with the weather for our stay in Malta in the first week in April but this was more than made up for by our stay at the Akwador. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts Neil and Larissa who really helped us get the most out our holiday. Their local knowledge and tips (such as buses and the best and most economical ways to see the island) are excellent. Our room was spotless with a side view of the harbour and a small balcony. The kitchen was a lovely bonus. Complimentary tea/coffee/jams and all the kitchen equipment you would need to prepare a simple breakfast. Or just a nice place to bring back a takeaway or make a picnic. The Terrace from the Kitchen is lovely with great views overlooking the Harbour, good spot to enjoy a glass of wine (Neil and Larissa can supply this too!). We like to walk and Neil produced a printed walk for us to follow taking us from Marscala to Marsaxlokk, a very pretty fishing village with lots of fish restaurants. We did go on one organised excursion, a full day jeep and boat trip which took in Gozo and Comino which was lovely (booked through the Akwador website which gave a discount). The bus service in Malta is really good, apart from the one organised trip we used the bus service every day and saw all we could fit in! Marsacala itself has a lovely harbour to stroll around and restaurants and bars. Two restaurants we visited that are worth mentioning were Bongo Nyah (fusion food and cocktail bar) and Sabai Jai (thai bistro) both of which were very good. It was good to come back to quieter Marsascala each evening after spending busy days exploring. Thank you Neil and Larissa for making us so welcome.

    • Best view in Marsascala

      Reviewed 17 August 2019

Highly recommended! The couple that run the Guest House, Larisa and Neil, are very helpful in any way and always good for tips about Malta and a chat. I ususally stay there to escape the cold Austrian winters and enjoy a bit of sunshine, so it's important that the heating is OK (even maltese winters can be a bit chilly sometimes). Self-catering facilities with free coffee and tea, a big fridge and a microwave are perfect, if you want to enjoy your breakfast any time you like. And the roof terrace is some "marvel to behold". I guess it's the best view available in Marsascala. This combined with moderate prices and spacious rooms with balconies makes for a perfect stay. Highly recommended!
