    • Outstanding nachos

We travel a lot around the world, including to Mexico, and always try to find good nachos. For us, the best nachos are in this restaurant that we visit frequently. They are simply outstanding. The balance between the ingredients is just right including how spicy they are. Cant wait to visit the Eight Bells again!

This Pub was recommended to me by my hotelier. I reserved a table for six people including two children. The waiting staff we good and the bar staff who took the order where good. The food took one hour to arrive after ordering. This is not good for children of five and three. The children's meals were far too large. My wife noted on the menu that her curry was gluten free, which I ordered after the bar staff double checked that it would be gluten free. By midnight I knew that this meal had contained gluten. My wife was in pain with severe stomach cramps, which lasted about 24 hours. Many people assume that gluten free meals are a personal preference. They are not. For a person who has a medical condition gluten causes deterioration to the gut and pain. Standards must improve in this respect. I have not had issues with other pubs.

My family, a party of ten people arrived at the pub at 1:30 on a Sunday. The pub was very busy with Sunday lunch orders and we hadnt booked. The staff were lovely. They found us a table and we were served quickly. The goodbye was reasonably priced and was delicious. Thanks to the staff for a lovely experience.

We stopped off here and the kids loved the large garden with several slides and climbing frames etc.. Sat by the river was very pleasant with ducks etc... The service was friendly. I ordered a Moussaka for around 11. I asked if I could have chips instead of the baguette that came with it. I was informed an 'upgrade' fee of 80p had to be paid if I wanted chips instead. I paid the 80p. So now the meal was nearly 12. When it came it was a small dish of moussaka which was OK in taste but unremarkable - just very bog standard pub grub of a Whetherspoon type quality. There were literally just 10 chips next to it - some of which were just the tiny end bits. Having had to pay extra for chips, and noting that chips are a pretty cheap item to make, it was disappointing to get such a mean and stingy tiny handful. There were more chips on the children's meals than on my plate!!!!! All in all I felt I had paid nearly 12 for not much more than a starter sized amount of food. I was not expecting gourmet award winning cuisine and I say again that the moussaka did taste OK - but nothing to write home about. It was the stingy tiny portion of chips after paying extra, combined with the pretty small moussaka portion, for the price of just under 12 that left me feeling it was not good value for money. The same quality can be bought in Whetherspoon for around half the price - but there would be more food on the plate!!! The kids meals were good and more than reasonable portions for the price paid - good value for money. This made the whole thing even more bizarre. The kids got more food for less than 4 than I did for nearly 12!!!! The isle of wight burger was also good and looked fresh and juicy. Acceptable for the price, but again a small portion of chips for an adult meal - but not as small as mine. As a result I would think twice before returning. I would rather pay 15 elsewhere for high quality and a fair portion, or far less in whetherspoon if I want a decent portion of basic unremarkable pub grub.
