    • Great in parts , disappointing in other respects

What we liked: atmosphere, gardens, lounges, furnishings and most of the staff were very good. Carlos the barman was superb probably the best we have ever had - he did everything to go the extra mile to make our visits to his bar that bit more enjoyable and as a result we spent more time in the bar ! the restaurant was also superb and good value. Fine dining at a sensible price - highly recommend eating in. What we didnt like: 5th floor room in the attic without a proper window. It was September but even then the room was too hot and the AC couldnt cope. I would absolutely insist on not being on 5th floor on any future visit. Another disappointment was that the Spa adjoining the hotel was chargeable at 28 per 90 minute visit. So just to take a dip in the pool its 28! Extra. This is unacceptable and should have been made clear at the time of booking. Another disappointment was breakfast, a poor selection for an establishment of this quality and the service was completely self serve even drinks - so it felt like hard work compared to other places we have stayed. The solo lady waitress seemed to have attitude unlike all the other hotel staff - she needed more help and it showed. Would we book again? - not a 5th floor room and not until the hotel includes the swimming pool in the price. How about 1 free visit for each guest?

    • Beautiful setting and comfortable boutique hotel

We got a room on the first floor hidden away with a view to the river and gardens and thought it was delightful. It was very quiet and nicely furnished. The bed was large and comfortable. I truly enjoyed the warmth and coziness of the room. The breakfast was very good. There was variety and quality products. The last day we had to leave before six am to the airport and the hotel set up a breakfast for us at 4:30 am. Great service and friendly staff. It is a small place and outside the city but charming and peaceful. I thought the food in the cafeteria/bar was tasty. The setting overall is very inviting. The outside pool is hidden and not well suited for swims.

    • A charming small hotel

We made the decision to stay for 3 nights at this hotel just outside the city. We drove in to Santiago de Compostela and each day and parked our car in one of the car parks in the centre (10 mins) & then on two nights we took taxis (6 mins) in for dinner at a couple of local restaurants. We loved getting away from the hustle & bustle of the city to Quinta da Auga & it felt like we were coming home. Our room was cosy and the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and charming and the breakfasts & dinner we had in the dining room were both delicious. There are a lot of photos, pictures & bric a Brac around but they are part of the hotels charm. There is not much space outside as most of the grounds are on a hill going down to the water which has been left to grow wild & the above ground pool is really still a bit of a building site. I do agree with a previous reviewer that the sun loungers and outside could do with a bit of sprucing up but for us it didnt detract from a very peaceful & relaxing stay.

    • Lovely, atmospheric building with well appointed rooms, but common areas a bit disappointing

We enjoyed a quiet stay here for one night, having spent a few nights already in the center of Santiago. The room was beautiful, traditionally decorated; it would have been more comfortable and less sparse if a small sofa were used in lieu of multiple chairs, which were not very comfortable. Because the remodel of what was an old mill retained the "bones" of the prior building, windows were smallish, and so the room was deprived of a lot of natural light. The bed was extremely comfortable. I found the common areas a bit cluttered and was surprised by the use of astroturf at the outdoor dining area. Breakfast was excellent, probably the best I had on this trip to Europe. Also enjoyed the creative and tasty cuisine at the cafe/terrace dining area (I'll review the fancy restaurant separately), but service was slow. Overall, I enjoyed my stay but thought the hotel and food were a bit overpriced.

This lovely hotel is very nicely decorated and is located just outside Santiago de Compostela. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The bed is really comfortable and the staff is friendly. The outside pool is under construction and they should mention that on the website.
